Cologne-Bonn Airport (CGN) has shown dynamic growth in recent years benefiting from the constant changes in the air transport market. CGN’s core businesses, low-cost traffic and express freight, show above average growth prospects over the long term.Crucial for the long-term protection of the area at CGN is that the airport can offer airlines and service providers as well as all other users at CGN an attractive de­velopment perspective for the future. This includes a framework of suitable areas or facilities in which they can develop their business economically and tailored to suit their needs.

Despite some investments made in recent years, a development perspective is lacking. Therefore, planeground was assigned to develop a new sustainable missi­on statement for 2045 including a concept for urban and functional planning and aligned with the guidelines of modern and future-oriented airport infrastructure (avi­ation and non-aviation operation) within the context of economic efficiency.
